ReChurch Conference 2015 - November 5 & 6, 2015
A shepherd isn’t necessary when you’re in the pen.
Safe, comfortable, protected, supplied -- it seems that those qualities have become the calling cards of church life. Those are the rewards we receive when we accomplish our goal of huddling together, sheltered from the outside where things get all-to-tricky and dangerous.
In the fold, we stay unchallenged.
In the fold, we get lazy.
In the fold, we stop following.
If we accept that Jesus is our Good Shepherd, then why on earth would we ever put Him on the bench while we soak up the good life in the fold? When you venture to the unknown, there is abundance, freedom, risk, and reward all the while following closely behind our Shepherd.
In the wild, we find courage.
In the wild, we move forward.
In the wild, we cling tightly to the one who knows us best.
Yes, it’s a wild world. It always has been.
But the church was never called to stay in the fold. We were called into the wild.
