As followers of Christ, do we walk the line? The Urban Dictionary defines the phrase to "walk the line" as: behaving, abiding by the law and/or to abide by moral standards; to walk a straight path of decency by following the rules; to walk the straight and narrow. Can we say that we "walk the line"? The Man in Black sang of doing so.
In 1956, the late Johnny Cash recorded I Walk the Line, which sold over two million copies and became his first hit. He wrote this song as a newlywed, expressing his devotion to his wife with the words: "Because you're mine, I walk the line." Still, Cash re-recorded this hit song four times, and in some respects, he could have sung it from a spiritual perspective, when he surrendered to Christ later in life. With Jesus on his mind, Johnny Cash might have sung, "Because you're mine, I walk the line."
In our attempt to surrender our lives to Christ in 2011, there comes a time when we must...walk the line.
