God's Love Changes Our Family

Matt Proctor - Jul 28, 2019

Catch-Up

What was your highlight from the past week? What was your low point from the last week?

Reading/Discussion

Read the sermon text for this week.
How did this sermon/text deepen your faith? How did it challenge you? Explain.
What resonated with you the most from this sermon/text? Explain.
In this sermon, Guest Speaker Matt Proctor spoke about how parents should be protectors (shepherding their children), sheriffs (disciplining their children), and teachers (instructing their children). In Which of these do you do (or would do) well? Which do you struggle with (or would struggle with) the most?
What are the pros when you have a parent who can play all three of these roles effectively? What are the cons when you have a parent that is only ever a sheriff, only a shepherd, or only a teacher?
How has your family either contributed to, or stood in the way of, your own love for the Lord? How has your family of origin shaped your view of God, the church, relating to others, etc.?
How would you describe the kind of legacy you want for your family? In what ways do you want your family to be the same or different than your family of origin? How might your life group help you in this endeavor?
In what ways might you need to confess and repent for not intentionally helping your family love the Lord?
kids or not, every family needs other people in their church family to be examples of Christ to them. How are you pursuing your own walk with Christ? How would you describe your relationship with God right now? Is it where you want it to be? How can you grow in this area?
How does this passage or sermon challenge you to live differently this week?

Encouragement

What do you sense God doing in you that you need to respond to?
What do you sense God doing around you that he is inviting you into?
What do you sense God doing through you that you need courage for?

Accountability: At this time, the group may want to split into smaller, gendered groups.

Who are you in God’s eyes? Who are you in the eyes of this group?
What has your time in God’s Word and prayer been like this week?
Husbands, how are you helping your wife grow in holiness? Wives, how are you making it either easy or hard for your husband to help you grow in holiness?
Have you consistently reflected the love of Christ to those in your life this week?
Where have you wrestled with temptation this week?
What strongholds have you wrestled with this week?
What steps will you take to avoid temptation?
Have you been 100% honest?

Prayer: Spend time as a group in prayer for anything that may have surfaced from the discussion/accountability time that you personally feel like needs to be brought before the Lord.
